As I write this, I have been sick with Covid for the last week.
Being sick, nobody likes that… I am lucky to have a mild version, and still, it’s uncomfortable; there was a lot of pain and a total lack of energy.
What being sick can teach us: the art of allowing!
What do I mean by that?
When we don’t like what is happening to us, a part of us is usually resisting what is.
But this makes circumstances even worse because we are fighting what is happening. And – we can’t ever win!
“Why does it take so long?” “I don’t want to have this pain.”
“I had other plans.” “I would rather like to…”
A constant chatter of the mind – ego that tells us that things should be different than they are! And it’s just the way it is!
Try this whenever you notice that you’re opposing what is happening.
Stop whatever you’re doing and thinking. Notice what is there. Suspend all judgment about it. You can feel that something inside you likes or dislikes what is there. Even this you can notice!
And again, don’t judge! Let it be as it is without giving it more energy and only observing as if watching a movie. You can be moved by a film. But you know you aren’t what you’re looking at on the screen.
Allow, if emotions are there, to move through you. Again, don’t go into them, and don’t suppress them either. Just be willing to be with whatever is there. Pain? Welcome. Pleasure? Welcome. Don’t attach yourself to it; allow it to come and go!
This “Art of Allowing” is fundamental to a happy life!
Let me know how that goes for you.
P.S.: Allowing is not a synonym for resignation! Actually, allowing is an active thing because you feel whatever is there without resisting it, and resignation is a passive way of giving up.
