Acclimatize to change positively

Since our brain is biased and tends to remember many more negative things than positive ones, I invite you to this contemplative exercise, where we will cultivate a more positive outlook on changes in our lives.

Sit down, breathe, relax.

Now, think about a moment in your life when something changed for the better. If you can’t find any, consider doing something that improves your situation (it could be as simple as washing your dishes and being happy about your clean counter!).

So, with your awareness, allow yourself to feel the situation as it was initially.

I’ll keep with, to make it easier with the dirty dishes 😉 for an example:

The counter is full of pots whose bottoms are stuck with what you cooked, filthy plates, soiled glasses, stained cups, and dirty cutlery. So, you decide to clean the mess. Even though it’s not your preferred way of spending your time, you do the dishes. While doing them, you may have thoughts about how you don’t like doing this, but then, in the end, wow, it’s done and clean. It feels so good, all tidy and perfect!

You see, in this example, the actual process of changing the situation needed (it often does) some pressure and suffering, or at the least being fed up with something.

Then, doing the transformative action often takes effort and sometimes willpower.

The outcome is then relief, ease, and improvement.

Allow yourself to notice the positive outcome of the example that you chose!

  • How does it feel in your body?
  • Is your breathing different?
  • How is your vision?
  • Did something change in your posture, the way you’re holding yourself?

If yes, acknowledge it and take an inner photograph of it. Allow it to really settle into your system. Enjoy this physical manifestation of positive change.

This paves the way for going through changes with less struggle and more ease. In fact, it is actually welcoming change, knowing that it brings something new, fresh and enriching into your life!
